To The Moon is a virtual presentation currently available for streaming here. It was performed live with one pre-recorded sequence and then formatted for on demand streaming. Produced in a partnership with David Katz with support from Rise Above Violence, Beth Kander’s docudrama highlights domestic violence and abuse stories of real, anonymous people interviewed in 2014. Costumes were coordinated with actors via zoom fittings, with select pieces like postal delivery uniforms and lab coats being shipped to the actors homes, where they ran their own technical aspects of the show with support and direction from the technical and artistic team. The focus of this design was to honor the lives these women live every day- as the script says, “The actors’ costumes are, in a very fundamental way, “the set.” Each outfit tells a story. We see each woman as she is, in her daily life, not as a “domestic abuse survivor” but as a full human person who happens to have a painful past you might never guess at if you just showed up as her customer, her client, her patient, her fellow congregant.” If you or someone you know is in an unsafe domestic situation, please click here or call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233).
