Beloved Classic A Charlie Brown Christmas is a staple favorite at Christmastime in many households, and the stage show is the perfect bit of familiar nostalgia at the holidays. As this production was mainly catered to families and children, we decided to do contemporary costumes in their cartoon world to bring them into the modern era and let the kids in the audience recognize their world and style in these characters. Each character kept the colors and basic elements of their traditional costume, but was reimagined as a kid today. To allow the characters to Ice Skate on stage, each character was put into Heelys and given the ability to pop wheels in to “ice skate” on the wooden stage deck. This show’s design was ultimately a love letter to The Peanuts, a piece of pop culture and theatre that has been close to Elly’s heart since childhood, and the joyful exuberance of Gen Z fashion trends.
